Subject: Prayer for Permission to Arrange a Blood Donation Camp in the Campus

Respected Sir,

I, Farid Ahmed, a final year student of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Roll No. 17-045, beg to seek your kind permission and support in organizing a Blood Donation Camp at our esteemed university campus, the aim being to address the issue of serious blood scarcity at our city’s local hospitals and to grow much-needed awareness about blood donation among our students.

It is proposed that the Blood Donation Camp is proposed to be collaborated between the Students’ Union of the University of Dhaka, the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Blood Bank. We strongly believe that the event will help not only in serving a vital humanitarian purpose but also instill the motivation of social responsibility among students and faculty alike.

Proposed Details of Blood Donation Camp:

  1. Date and Duration: We want to conduct the camp on 15th September 2024, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  2. Venue: We need the TSC auditorium since it is spacious and will be easily accessible to both students and faculty members.
  3. Medical Support: We have contacted the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Blood Bank already, and they are prepared to provide us with the required medical staff, equipment, and support to collect and store the blood safely.
  4. Volunteer Team: A total of 50 volunteers among students from different departments will support the organization and ensure smooth functioning of the event. Such volunteers will also be provided with basic training by medically expert persons on how to behave appropriately during the camp.
  5. Awareness Campaign: One week prior to the event, awareness would be carried out on campus through posters, pamphlets, and small awareness sessions held at every department in order to make students aware of the importance of donating blood and to help clear any misconceptions they may have.
  6. Refreshments: We also plan to get light refreshments for the blood donors so that their condition is well taken care of post-donation. This shall be arranged through the contribution of local businessmen who have agreed to sponsor the event.
  7. Certificate of Appreciation: A certificate of appreciation bearing the signatures of the Vice-Chancellor and the Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences shall be awarded to each donor to recognize their contribution to this noble cause.
  8. After Donation Care: A rest room for the donors where they will be taken care of by physicians with advice on after-care post donation.
  9. Data Management: Instruction of a digitized system to record information of the donors to keep track for future blood donation and for the development of a database from which potential donors can be drawn in times of emergency.

Expected Outcomes:

  1. A collection of approximately 500 units of blood will go a long way in meeting demand at local hospitals.
  2. Awareness of blood donation will be raised within the university community.
  3. A sense of social responsibility and service among students will be developed.
  4. The university will improve its relationship with healthcare institutions in the locality.

Rest assured, all precautions will be taken to ensure the safety and welfare of the donors. The event will strictly and rigorously comply with the health and safety guideline provided by the World Health Organization and the Directorate General of Health Services, Bangladesh.

Financial Support:

Whereas we have got a little sponsorship from some of the local businesses, any financial support that the university could provide on other aspects like printing of awareness materials and certificates would be highly appreciated.

Sir, we consider that this Blood Donation Camp duly corresponds with our university’s assigned mission of social responsibility and community service. Your patronage and support for this camp would add a great deal of value to the successful conduction of this event, and may even turn it into a recurring feature within the university calendar.

We look forward with anticipation to getting your kind considerations and approval to move ahead with the plan and proper execution of this noble cause.

Yours sincerely,

Farid Ahmed
